DOOMSDAY NOW? *
*THIS FILM IS CURRENTLY UNDER DEVELOPMENT Today’s globalized world is more complex and interconnected than ever before, but it also appears to be more confusing and unstable. For more than a decade it has been obvious that we are living in a period of fundamental changes. It seems evident that we are about to experience a radical transformation in the manner in which we think, live and interact with each other and our environment. The era of globalization is upon us. The sources of the instability threatening the new world order cannot be regarded as isolated phenomena; it is a combined consequence of a range of synergic destructive forces that accentuates the danger of a possible Doomsday scenario: Drastic changes in climate and ecosystems generate desertification, flooding and natural disasters. Lack of all sorts of basic resources threatens economies, and traditional social structures are collapsing. Raging famines and pandemics kill people in enormous numbers. Masses of unprecedented scales are forced to immigrate in search of new homes and living stocks. Resentment and hostility towards the newcomers ignite clashes between the different creeds and cultures. Xenophobia and fear antagonise domestic and foreign policies. Flourishing extremism and terrorism is spreading into our mainstream Western daily lives. The questions we ask ourselves are therefore: -Are these apocalyptic scenarios truly approaching in the near horizon -Could
we possibly be on the slope to the final end; or is it all just a bluff,
an exaggerated and imprudent media-hype?
